HISTORY
Belvedere Social Bowls Club was formed in 1977 by men
members of
Belvedere Social Club. (Affiliated to Bowls England in 1978). It was
quickly followed, in 1978 by their ladies – fed up with being
left at home so much. The two Clubs (Men’s and
Ladies’) shared the Bowling Green at West Heath Recreation
Ground with two other clubs, West Heath Bowls Club and Erith Working
Men’s Club, the green being managed and maintained by a
Consortium of those clubs. Sadly, the latter two clubs ceased to
function around 2007 and our two were the only ones left! However, in
2013 it was decided to amalgamate the two sections and become a mixed
club and from then on, we have largely played only mixed games. In 2014
it was further decided that it would no longer be a requirement for
members to also be members of Belvedere Social Club in Nuxley Road and
the Consortium ceased to exist.
We currently have around 50 playing members but also 15 or so Honorary
or Social Members.
